Volunteering

for Non-SA Citizens

About

As a volunteer you will complete the same 6 weeks APU training course as the SA trainees. If you have proof of previous military or police training then you may apply for the 4 weeks course only. After you’ve successfully completed the course you will have the option of voluntering on patrols for 3 months or 6 months. Volunteers do not get paid for their service on the patrols.

Volunteers will also never be issued with a firearm while on patrols – this is due to the South African weapons handling regulations.

You will, however, be placed on patrols with APU rangers with firearms. Volunteers will always be the 3rd person on a 2 man team, and their duties will be no different from any SA citizen or employee of Protrack APU.

Please do not hesitate to discuss the above information with us. Unfortunately Protrack APU can not employ non-SA citizens. That is why we started the Volunteer Program for our international students.

You will be able to stay at the Protrack camp in between patrols. This will be at no cost, but you will have to sort yourself out with your meals when you’re not on patrol. We provide you with rations while you’re out on patrol.

The price for the 3 or 6 month option for non-SA citizens includes accommodation at the Protrack camp (a rustic camp with basic accommodation and a communal, self-catering kitchen). You will be able to stay at this house in between going out on patrols in the bush.

We are in search of highly skilled individuals who possess the capability and willingness to successfully complete the intensive 6-week PU Training course. Upon course completion, you will be expected to contribute to advanced training and retraining in the following domains. Kindly submit your CV and a letter of motivation on official letterhead.
  • Combat Medic: Individuals with advanced medical training or a Doctorate degree.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat Expertise: Proficiency in disciplines like boxing, martial arts such as Krav Maga, or any grappling-oriented form.

to configuring camera equipment, aiding with app platforms, and more.
