Since 1992, Protrack APU has been at the forefront of recruiting and training individuals committed to the preservation of wildlife. If you’re ready to make a difference and meet the challenges of conservation head-on, our 6-week course is designed for you.

Course Overview

  • Duration: 6 Weeks
  • Age Requirement: 18-35
  • Guarantee: Employment for 1 year post-completion
  • Minimum Requirements for Enrollment (South African Citizens):
    • Male, aged 18-35
    • Minimum Grade 10 qualification
    • Clean criminal record
    • Full payment of course fees before training commencement

Course Structure

Foundation Course 

(2 Weeks) 

Begin your journey with a comprehensive foundation course, combining theoretical knowledge and practical fieldwork. You’ll learn basic tracking, undergo drills, and participate in exercises.

Key subjects include:

  • Weapons competency
  • PSIRA registration
  • First aid
  • Reptile orientation

Accommodation and meals are provided, setting the stage for progression to the Advanced Course.

Advanced
Course

(4 Weeks) 

Challenge yourself with our Advanced Course, designed to push your limits and expand your skills. This phase includes intense physical and mental training, teaching you to set up camps, build shelters, and track wildlife, including the Big 5. Experience outdoor living with basic rations.

Key subjects include:

  • Autopsies
  • Ambushing
  • Night operations
  • Security planning
  • Rhino conservation projects
  • Survival techniques
  • Observation skills

This unique opportunity allows for hands-on experiences on Big 5 reserves, including darting wild animals and participating in vital rhino conservation efforts.

Certificates Gained

Upon completing the 6-week APU Course

Upon successful completion of the 6-week APU Training Course, graduates will receive key certifications that highlight their expertise and readiness for anti-poaching roles. These certificates, crucial for a career in wildlife conservation, underscore the rigorous training and dedication of participants

Below are the certifications awarded:

  • Advanced Anti-Poaching Unit Course Certificate
  • Accredited Grade E (PSIRA)
  • Accredited First Aid Level 1, 2, & 3
  • Reptile Orientation Course Certificate
  • Accredited Weapons Competency: SLR for both basic and business use (PFTC)

As an Anti-Poaching Officer with ProTrack Anti-Poaching Unit, you will play a crucial role in wildlife conservation efforts by actively patrolling and protecting vulnerable areas from poaching activities. 
The position involves a one-year contract, with an initial training period of six weeks to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective anti-poaching operations.

Rank Structure

Dog Handler and Instructor

Dog Handlers: Work with trained dogs to enhance anti-poaching operations.

Dog Instructors: Become and accredited and certified instructor for dog handling.

Medical Instructors

Provide medical training to enhance field capabilities

Weapons Instructors

Weapons Instructors: Train and mentor others in the proper use of firearms.

Anti-Poaching Instructor

Share expertise and knowledge with new recruits and conduct all aspects of anti-poaching operations.

Specialised Task Team and Intelligence

Engage in targeted operations to address specific threats.

Junior Management: Assist in the day-to-day operations and coordination, attend to meetings and strive to run your own area.
